It can be fun to look back at historical papers and see what events were a big deal in a community.
I found a copy of The Tillamook Herald published 105 years ago (8 August 1913) last night and found it to be rather intriguing on a couple of fronts.
What first stood out what the adoption of the labor laws in regards to girls, not boys, but to girls! The cultural difference of 100 years in how we view ourselves is quite interesting. But after a second reading, what sunk in was this: with this legislation, Oregon is the first state to pass a compulsory minimum wage!
This makes one wonder what is it that we do today that will catch the attention of people 100 years from now.
