SOLVE will be hosting its Fall 2018 Beach and Riverside Pick Up Saturday, September 29th from 10am to 1pm. It is one of two scheduled Beach events for the year, the other already being held back in March.
SOLVE, originally spelled SOLV (Stop Oregon Litter and Vandelism), was started in 1969 by then governor Tom McCall and other leaders in the community. The Beach Clean Up was started in 1984. Today, it is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with a mission "to bring Oregonians together to improve our environment and build a legacy of stewardship."
One of their main events, the upcoming Beach pick up will coincide with National Public Lands Day. There will be over 100 sites open for litter and restoration projects. Roughly half of those will be on the coast to pick up beach debris.
The event in March was hosted solely on Oregon's Beaches, with 45 locations open for volunteers. The March event saw over 3000 volunteers who helped remove over 16,000 tons of litter and debris.
