Neah Kah Nie Baseball and Softball traveled south to Nestucca, each facing off in double headers to finish the season.
In baseball, the two county schools have been neck in neck for placing in the standings. Nestucca was able to top Neah Kah Nie in the first match up on Monday. They hoped to have continued to success on Thursday.
The first match up proved to be in favor, though, of the Pirates from Neah Kah Nie. They got off to a quick start, scoring 6 runs early. Nestucca was able to put runs on the board, but it wasn't enough. The Pirates took the first game, 10-6. The second match, though, would turn to Nestucca's favor. It appeared as if the two flipped roles, with the Bobcats coming out ahead early, with Neah Kah Nie not able to catch up this time. Nestucca won 7-3.
Season ending records place Nestucca in 2nd and Neah Kah Nie in 3rd in the 2A/1A Special Distrcit-1 division. They both sit behind 1st ranked Knappa High School.
Like their counterparts on the baseball diamond, split success was also seen on the softball diamond.
Nestucca played a strong first game, taking the lead early and being able to hold on to it. Neah Kah Nie was able to keep the score close, but was not able to capitalize on opportunities. The Bobcats took the first game 9-5.
Success for the Bobcats was short lived. After a brief pause to celebrate the 4 seniors on the Bobcat team, the second of two games kicked off. Neah Kah Nie, not wanting to drop another match, took the lead early. They were able to shut out Nestucca, winning 19-0, with the game being called at the end of 5 innings.
Both Nestucca and Neah Kah Nie were playing close in the standings. Nestucca was able to inch ahead in the standings, placing 4th. Neah Kah Nie placed 5th in the standings.
