Tillamook Volleyball dropped their home opener to Sweet Home on Tuesday night. Despite being a loss, it was a well fought game, going to 5 sets.
The first set was dominated by the Huskies of Sweet Home. But you wouldn't have guessed it by watching Tillamook play in the next 3 sets. Tillamook was able to win the second and third set before losing a rough battle in both the fourth and fifth sets. Despite the loss, the team remains optimistic.
Tillamook volleyball lost seven varsity players from last year. They had only four returning players to the varsity team. The Cheesemakers aren't about to let the loss of experienced varsity players get in their way of success. Part of the mentality with the Tillamook Volleyball program is being able to play well together. Coach LaVonne has confidence in the upcoming players as she made sure they had playing time together on the JV team the previous year.
In regards to Tuesday's loss, Coach LaVonne had this to say:
“With 4 returning players, we are working on a new rhythm. Not a bad showing, taking sweet home to a full match of 5 sets. Sweet home has a fantastic libero that read our offense well. Our serving will improve as will our defense. We got better every set and that’s what a coach loves to see.”
Tillamook Volleyball will be playing at home again on Thursday. Varsity will tip off at 6pm against Newport High School.
